Waves and Wonders: Exploring Wexford's Stunning Beaches

Wexford, located on Ireland’s southeastern coast, is a treasure trove of breathtaking beaches that offer a perfect blend of natural beauty, fun activities, and serene relaxation spots. Whether you're a local or a visitor, these three beaches are must-see destinations that showcase the best of Wexford’s coastline.

1. Curracloe Beach

The Star of the Silver Screen

Curracloe Beach, which is often known for famously featuring in the movie "Saving Private Ryan," is a stunning expanse of soft, golden sand stretching for over 11 kms. This Blue Flag beach is ideal for long, wandering walks, sunbathing, and swimming in the clear, inviting waters. We loved this beach for a spot which is popular for many and easy to get to with plenty parking.

Activities: Aside from swimming and sunbathing, Curracloe is popular for sand dune adventures, bird watching, and beachcombing. It's also a fantastic spot for windsurfing and kite surfing on breezy days.

Tips: Visit early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds, especially during peak season.

2. Baginbun Beach

Secluded beauty

Baginbun Beach is one of Wexford’s most beloved beaches on the eastern side of Hook Peninsula, a real gem. With its crystal clear waters, sheltered secluded bay and cliff face on a good day it can be a real sun trap. This beach was one our favourite find’s on a recent road trip. The area above the beach is complemented by a popular coffee cart and wood fired sauna @sweathouse.ie making this spot a great day trip destination for a dip and sauna day!

Activities: Enjoy swimming, wander along the beach, picnic, kayak or picnic on the beach. Would be perfect as well for families.

Tips: Free carpark with limited parking, water hose to wash the sand and your gear down after a dip, coffee cart, sauna, portaloo’s. The sea here in normally calm but to be mindful due as no lifeguard’s and often quiet. Always swim with a buddy!

3. Dollar Bay

The best spot to catch a magnificent sunset

For those chasing the best sunset beach experience, Dollar Bay offers a just that, with one of the most glorious sunset’s to be seen. Dollar Bay is situated on Hook Peninsula, with a small signposted road that leads to the beach. High cliffs give this beautiful beach shelter with a air of tranquility. We came across this beach as the sun was setting and what a sight! There is something so magical about swimming in the sea as the sun set’s with the colours of sky vibrant contrasting with the depths of the sea.

Activities: Dollar Bay is ideal for a wander, explore or picnic. We did swim here and many people do but be aware at your own risk as there are no lifeguards and this is a quiet area so always consider safety first.

Tips: Access to the beach is via a narrow road, so drive carefully, ther is very limited room for parking, so be mindful not to block the road. There are no facilities, so bring everything you need for a comfortable visit.
